Recently I put 10 ideas/takeaways from my recent job search onto LinkedIn and I wanted to capture it on my blog. So here it goes:
1. Your network is **everything**. Career success is said to be 70% connectivity, 20% Perception, 10% Performance. There are lots of hidden opportunities — speak to people!
2. Don’t be afraid to put your OpenToWork on and be honest about why and what you’re looking for i.e. my driver was remote/closer to home. Add it to your headline.
3. Ask people’s help to share and like your post! Someone shared my post and it came up in their network and that’s in part why I got a new role.
4. Set boundaries — NO I’m not going to do a “cognitive assessment” test.
5. Keep ALL your options open. Nothing is set until you have signed a contract.
6. Get away from your PC and come up with ideas of what services/what you can do for organisations. Then back it up with evidence. Add it to your CV/LinkedIn.
7. Make everything super **visible” — add featured posts to LinkedIn, say if someone gives you a recommendation etc
8. Think about how you present yourself. Market is indeed tough — however, share more about what you can do for organisations! “Your vibe attracts your tribe”.
9. Limit your time on LinkedIn — do it in timebox sessions
10. Create a spreadsheet of all the things you have applied for / people you are speaking to.
