Collaboration is a key factor in improving quality

Ask yourself this question. As a team are we collaborating to solve complex problems or are their individuals going off and solving problems solo?

I would describe a lack of collaboration as an elephant in the room.

“The expression “the elephant in the room” is an important or enormous topic, question, or controversial issue that is obvious or that everyone knows about but no one mentions or wants to discuss because it makes at least some of them uncomfortable and is personally, socially, or politically embarrassing, controversial, inflammatory, or dangerous” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant_in_the_room

It might be awkward to call out a lack of collaboration/teamwork and seem perhaps even a little embarrassing to the team and even yourself as a member of that team.

The problem with individuals solving problems on their own is that they have blind spots. They might be missing key elements to solving the problem. Add a few more people into the mix and in my experience, a better solution is found.

Do you want the lack of collaboration to continue?

A lack of collaboration is going to affect the quality output of the project and as you’re there to help call out problems — here is your opportunity. This is a chance to show that *YOU* as a quality engineer/software tester finds problems BIGGER than those in a product.

Go get them!

Below is your BIG bucket of courage. Call it out. Find someone that sits outside of the immediate team. Preferably a stakeholder that has an invested interest in the outcome of the project as this person is more likely to take action to resolve.

Thanks for reading!

Best wishes,

Melissa
