Establishing a Culture that values Quality

Lately I’ve found myself talking more to my team about quality and how we are going to be building it in, rather than quality being an afterthought.

Prior to this, the past month or so I have found myself, to be quite frank, very reactive to situations and not thinking of the bigger picture. I know I’ve been here before where factors have affected my working style — from illness, to workload, pandemic, project setup and so on. So how do I turn this around? The first thing is to literally *stop*. I am where I am. It is Ok to be where I am right now. No judgment. No self shame or imposter syndrome rising. There are lots of times where I’m sure each of us realize things are not the best they can be. It’s good to be here. These challenges help us grow and flourish.

The next thing is, self retrospection and looking at things from a new perspective is a good thing. It is a skill in itself.

My next thoughts turn to — it’s a team effort. Quality is not built by one person. It’s a team effort. So what do my other team members think when they hear the word “quality"? If I say our goal is to create a “high quality product", then what does that mean to each individual?

So this is my next goal. Establishing a culture that values quality and the importance of building it in.

Working on Value in everything we do. Removing waste. Ensuring continuous flow of work
